Whether you’ve already tried vaping or you’re planning to start, you should learn more about it. Let’s learn about the potential side effects of vaping with CBD oils.
When it comes to CBD vape oil, there are two main types to choose from namely natural CBD oil and synthetic CBD oil. The natural whole plant CBD is actually derived from hemp or cannabis plants. This usually contains an intricate blend of other types of minor cannabinoids called flavonoids and terpenes. Manufacturers extract the natural oils using different methods, but the best one is through super-critical extraction of CO2. This method maintains the original form of the cannabinoids.
On the other hand, synthetic CBD oil is also available out there. These synthetic CBD oils came about because of the potential medical revolution that this product offers along with all its benefits. Because of this, a lot of research institutes and drug companies have experimented and produced the synthetic version of CBD oil. On a molecular level, the synthetic CBD oils are very similar to the natural CBD oils. But they differ in efficacy, potency, and the pharmacokinetic properties, which means that they have different side effects as well.
What is CBD oil?
A lot of people believe that CBD oil is very effective as a type of medicine. In fact, those who manufacture this product claim that CBD oil is rich in cannabidiol which has a lot of health benefits. Unfortunately, there are no standards, guidelines or controls over what the manufacturers of CBD oil add to their products.
Because of this, some manufacturers produce CBD oil products for different purposes which contain THC. Therefore, you must be very cautious when choosing a CBD vape oil as well. If possible, stay away from those which contain THC because this is the psychoactive component in marijuana.
The potential side effects of natural CBD oil
CBD vaping is becoming more and more popular. A lot of people are becoming interested in trying this out as it’s one of the most effective ways to consume CBD oil. However, just like any other medications, this can also trigger some potential side effects. Although each person’s body would react differently to CBD oil and CBD vape oil products, it’s still important to learn about these side effects just in case you experience them.
One common effect is a dry mouth. According to studies, what’s known as the “cotton-mouth” sensation or dry mouth can occur when you practice CBD vaping or use CBD oil. This is because the submandibular glands which produce the saliva in your mouth also have cannabinoid receptors. When the CBD products affect those receptors, the saliva production of your mouth gets affected too which, in turn, leaves your mouth dry.
Another side effect to look out for is how the body metabolizes drugs commonly used by people. This is especially true for those who use high doses of CBD oil. This stops the activity of specific enzymes in the liver. Therefore, CBD vaping may potentially interact with some drugs you’re taking. So, if you’re taking prescription medications, talk to your doctor first before vaping with CBD oil or taking other CBD oil products.
Lightheadedness and drowsiness are also some common side effects. Lightheadedness may occur when your blood pressure levels drop because you take too much CBD. Fortunately, it’s easy to remedy this situation by drinking a cup of coffee or tea. Also, drowsiness may occur, again, when you take high doses of CBD oils. If you experience either of these side effects after vaping, then you shouldn’t drive or use any type of machinery.
In most cases though, natural CBD oil won’t cause any side effects especially if you take the right doses. Rather, it will provide you with a lot of health benefits. Also, you won’t be in danger of these side effects if you select a high-quality CBD vape oil which comes from a reputable brand.
Another thing to keep in mind is that these common side effects have a higher chance of occurring in people who suffer from severe health conditions. So if you’re one of these people, then the best thing to do is consult with your physician first before you start vaping or using CBD products.
The danger of overdosing on CBD oil
According to reports from the CDC (Center for Disease Control), there are multiple cases of CBD oil overdoses in different parts of the US. The report stated that about 51 people experienced adverse reactions after using CBD oil with 30 of them ending up in the hospital. These adverse reactions included seizures, a change in mental status, loss of consciousness, hallucinations, and confusion.
However, when the CDC obtained the samples and had them tested by the Utah Department of Public Safety, they discovered a synthetic cannabinoid without any cannabidiol. Apparently, the victims purchased the CBD products in tobacco shops. One particular product had a photo of blueberries but didn’t contain any information about the content and the manufacturer. Aside from this one, there are also other products concerned.
Of the victims who overdosed on CBD oil and experienced the severe side effects, about three-fourths of them were actually vaping the product while the rest took the CBD sublingually. This is why it’s extremely important to follow the appropriate dosage as indicated on the product’s label so as not to experience these harmful side effect.
What the Army had to say about CBD oils
On Monday, the Army released a health warning to the public about the potentially harmful side effects of CBD vaping. This warning came with advice to soldiers not to utilize vape pens or e-cigarettes containing CBD oil. According to the Army, the synthetic CBD oils might be harmful if they contain synthetic cannabinoids, concentrated tetrahydrocannabinol, known as THC, and some other hazardous substances. Always make sure the genuineness of the CBD oil that you plan to buy.
Along with the health warning, the Army claimed that they treated around 60 patients for symptoms commonly associated with CBD vape oils. These symptoms include vomiting, nausea, palpitations, headaches, and more. The Army also warned the public that this issue has the potential to spread rapidly. This is especially true because a lot of vape oils, especially the synthetic ones, don’t disclose the fact that they contain harmful substances.
